The Knoxville Writers’ Guild thanks the East Tennessee Foundation! Through a $2700 grant that the East Tennessee Foundation Literacy Endowment Fund awarded a year ago, KWG has been able to provide:
- Four memoir workshops for 40 senior adults in Knox and Blount Counties.
- Published writers to speak to about 120 youth in English classes in four urban high schools. Additionally, KWG is urging high school students in Knox and contiguous counties to enter the 2017 KWG Fall Writing Contest
- Scholarships for 20 area residents to have KWG memberships and attend workshops.
- The second annual Adult Spelling Bee Sept. 7, which this year is open to anyone 15 and older. That makes the Bee a great opportunity for fun, intergenerational competition. The Bee has community-wide reach and promotes the richness of language! Other sponsors include Pilot Flying J Corporation, Testprep Experts and National Mailroom Service.
