Expired KWG 2018 Spelling Bee

Following the success of the Knoxville Writers’ Guild (KWG) Second Spelling Bee, the KWG is happy to announce plans for a third bee, this year hosted by Scruffy City Hall. Major funding has been provided by Pilot Flying J Corporation, Luedeka Neely, National Mailroom, and Testprep Experts.

The third Annual Adult Spelling Bee will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at 7:00 pm. The competition will be open to ages 18 and up, providing a great opportunity for college students to compete with teachers, parents, and community adults. Spelling words are drawn from great literature and other non-technical sources. First, second, and third place winners will earn cash prizes. Between each round, spellers and spectators have a chance to win door prizes donated by local merchants, organizations, and artists.

Due to space limitations, the Bee is limited to 25 spellers. The entry fee is $12, and spellers do not need to be KWG members. Please register for the Bee using the Event Cart at the bottom of this page.

See the rules here.

Spectators are welcome. A suggested donation of $2 includes a chance to win door prizes. Parking is free in city garages after 6 p.m.  Market Square Garage is the closest to Scruffy City, but Langley, Locust Street, Promenade, and State Street are all within 10 minutes of Scruffy City.

Proceeds of the Bee will help fund programs and operations of the nonprofit Knoxville Writers’ Guild, founded in 1992 with a mission is to facilitate a broad and inclusive community for area writers, provide a forum for information, support and sharing among writers, help members improve and market their writing skills and promote writing and creativity.

For more information on the Bee contact Spelling Bee Manager Michael K. Smith of Testprep Experts at spellingbee@knoxvillewritersguild.org.
