KWG to host “Open Mic Night” July 6

KNOXVILLE, TN — Knoxville Writers’ Guild will host its popular “Open Mic Night” on Thursday, July 6, at 7 p.m.  Participants should bring a three-minute segment of their work to read onstage.

The event, which is open to the public, will be in the Fellowship Hall of Central United Methodist Church, 201 3rd Avenue. A $2 donation is requested at the door. Parking is plentiful and free.

Only members are allowed to read, but anyone may join KWG at the event.  Arrive early to sign up and ensure a great seat.

To ensure as many people as possible have the chance to read, the Guild follows these guidelines:

  1. You must be a current member of the Knoxville Writers’ Guild to read your work. You may join or renew your membership at the event ($30, with discount to $15 for students). There will be a first come, first served sign-up sheet at the door for readers.
  2. You may only read your own work or that of another KWG member with their written permission.
  3. Podium time is two to three minutes maximum, depending on the number of people who sign up. Three minutes is about one and a half double-spaced pages. A reader’s time includes any explanation, set-up or backstory. There are no exceptions. Readers should time their segment in advance.
  4. The content of what you read should be suitable for a general audience.

KWG will supply coffee and water. Snacks to share are welcome.
