Expired Julia Watts: How to Write a Sex Scene (without sounding like a pervert)

Sure, you know the skinny on plot, character, and setting, but you’ve wondered, you’ve worried about how to write a sex scene (without sounding like a pervert). You’ve avoided the whole idea and left a big hole in your manuscript. This workshop will cover a variety of advanced techniques and include some writing exercises to help you practice them. Have a pen and paper or your laptop — whatever you need to write! For experienced fiction writers.

Julia Watts is the author of more than a dozen novels for adults and young adults. Her novel Finding H.F. won the 2002 Lambda Literary Award in the Children’s/Young Adult category, and her most recent novel, Quiver (Three Rooms Press, 2018), was a Southeastern Independent Booksellers’ Okra Pick and a finalist for a Foreword Indie Award. She holds an M.F.A. in Writing from Spalding University and an M.A. in English from the University of Louisville. Julia lives in Knoxville and is a member of the East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame. After a twenty-plus year college teaching career, she is now a PhD student in Children’s and Young Adult Literature at the University of Tennessee, where she is an Access and Diversity Graduate Fellow.
