Expired The Art of Losing: Writing about grief and loss

Pauletta Hansel, author of Heartbreak Tree and Palindrome, the Weatherford Award winning book about her mother’s journey through dementia, will lead this generative workshop on writing through some of our most challenging material. Pauletta will provide examples of how writers have chosen poetic and prose forms to make art from content in which they might otherwise have drowned, then provide some prompts to get us writing.

Pauletta Hansel’s ninth poetry collection is Heartbreak Tree, an exploration of the intersection of gender and place in Appalachia. Her poetry and prose have been featured in Oxford American, Rattle, American Life in Poetry, Still: The Journal and Poetry Daily, among others. Pauletta was Cincinnati’s first Poet Laureate and is 2022 Writer-in-Residence for The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County.
