In “Digging for Gold,” workshop leader Bonny Millard shows writers how to use life events, both large and small, to get started on a project, to explore the depths of their stories or to get unstuck.
Have you ever stood perfectly still while wasps flew around you, hoping not to get stung? Or felt the magic of a hummingbird as it hovered nearby, eying you? Moments of magic, fear, gratitude, love or sadness that we experience are the same feelings that characters have. Through discussion and writing exercises, we’ll explore how these events can be used for creating intriguing, genuine moments in both fiction and nonfiction.
Millard, a project development editor, earned an MFA in Creative Writing (fiction) and has won multiple awards as a journalist.
