Leaving

There was a time when you waited for me.

As I hurried to catch up.

Holding your hand, I was a little girl.

When I looked up, you were always there.

For a while we were together,

Walking arm in arm.

But now you’ve grown away from me.

Now you’re fading,

Gray and shadowy

And I have to shout to bridge the distance,

Half to the other side of life.

And trying to hold you is like grasping

At fog wisps

That trail across the summer sky

Fading in the sun.
