Knoxville Writers’ Guild 2016 Annual Contest Winners and Runners-up

Overall, this year’s contest was exceptionally successful. We saw an total increase in submissions this year from 112 entries last year to 139 entries this year. The Young Writers category saw tremendous interest this year up from six entries last year to 37 entries this year! We saw the next biggest increase of entries in the Poetry category from 22 entries last year to 42 this year. (more…)

Observations on the Writing Journey – on the Eve of Publication


One week from today – from the very moment I am writing these words – the launch of my first novel is scheduled to occur at Union Avenue Books in Knoxville, Tennessee. What a surreal sentence that is to type. In elementary school, as I wrote and illustrated my stapled-together “books” made from lined notebook paper, I certainly imagined such a moment. I certainly dreamed of it. But I am rather bemused as to how I actually got here. I’ve spent some time thinking about how it happened—there have been moments of magic, I can’t deny, and some great, good fortune—but it’s also been a matter of putting one foot in front of the other for years and years and years. KWG Author Event and Fundraiser with Barnes & Noble – October 1, 2016

Join us at Barnes & Noble as we highlight some Knoxville Writers’ Guild members and their work. The Guild will present roughly 20 local authors, offer a free workshop on social media for writers at 1 p.m., and host author readings throughout the day. Get a jump start on your holiday shopping and purchase a few autographed copies for your own to-read pile.
